The oceans rose to 5 meters(16.4 feet) submerging cities like Ho Chi Minh city under the sea. More severe weather patterns like stronger typhoons and longer droughts wreaking havoc upon the remaining vulnerable coastlines and farmlands added to the climate crisis. The war itself lasted for three years, which ended without the involved parties using nuclear weapons.
As humanity is inching one step closer to extinction, they begin to unite together as one to save the planet from catastrophe by fundamentally changing the way society functions. Gone are the days where we rely upon fossil fuels to power our vehicles and our homes as hybrid and all-electric vehicles and renewables like solar and wind become more commercially viable and more recent technological breakthroughs like fusion power supplementing, or in some places, replacing it as the fuel and power of choice for the industrialized world. The ideas by certain people regarding the colonization of the Earth's oceans in order to alleviate population burdens gains traction and with both government and megacorporation support, manages to thrive in very hostile seas.
With millions upon millions of people beginning to live out their lives in seastead cities. The sea steads themselves are marvels of modern engineering and they serve as an island of civilization across the oceans and coastlines of the world. Though some of the seastead cities are owned by private megacorporations, others are under the control of national governments. Nevertheless, these cities are a melting pot of various cultures and faiths where people from all over the world live and work together in perfect harmony.
This is now a world where technological progress meets ecological diversity and the Climate Crisis has mostly dealt with, yet the scars of the Third World War remain. Underneath all the conferences and diplomatic meetings between the multinational alliance blocs, Warplanner AI's are planning for a hypothetical but possible fourth and final world war which humanity might not possibly survive.
